Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching?

Coaching is a process where you work in partnership with a coach to identify and work toward goals in your life. It is  future-focused and oriented around specific action steps you can take. A coach will not tell you what to do but will guide you to find your own answers through powerful questions. It is customized to align with your values and desires.

How can coaching help me?

Coaching can help you move from feeling stuck to feeling empowered. It can help you figure out the right next steps for you and your personal journey. It will open up new ways of thinking that can transform you in powerful ways.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Therapy is needed to work on clinical mental health issues. You will not get a mental health diagnosis or treatment from a coach. While therapy helps you dig through deeper issues or things from your past, coaching is focused on moving you from your present challenges into a future you want by helping you intentionally create it.

What kinds of skills do you teach?

I can teach you skills to help you honor and regulate your emotions, engage in healthy self care, communicate effectively, set and hold boundaries, set achievable and meaningful goals, live in alignment with your core values, and more.

Does insurance pay for coaching? Can I use my HSA?

Unfortunately insurance does not pay for coaching, and you cannot use health savings account funds because it is not medical treatment.

How do I set up an appointment?

You can set up an appointment by clicking on Services. Appointments are 50 minutes. For your first appointment, please choose "Initial 50 Minute Session" so that you can fill out the new client paperwork. Future sessions will be the regular "50 Minute Session". After you have selected your session, you can choose to pay for that single session or get a discount by signing up for a monthly plan.

How do the plans work?

If you sign up for a monthly plan, you can choose either 2 or 4 sessions per month. You will be charged at the same time each month until you cancel. You are responsible for booking your appointments each month. Plans are nonrefundable.

Can I cancel my plan at anytime?

Yes. If you sign up for a monthly plan, you will be charged monthly, but you may cancel anytime before your next monthly payment. To cancel or reschedule a particular session, you must give 24 hours notice or you will forfeit that session. (Exceptions can be made for emergencies.)

Betrayal Trauma FAQ

What is betrayal trauma?

Betrayal trauma is the trauma experienced when someone you are deeply attached to and depend on for support and safety (parent or intimate partner) betrays your trust through abuse or neglect. This does not have to be physical abuse or neglect. In a committed relationship, presenting one reality to you while having another secret reality they keep to themselves, such as an addiction or infidelity, is a form of psychological abuse.

How do I know if I am experiencing betrayal trauma?

If your spouse has withheld information from you, been involved in infidelity or addiction, engaged in a secret reality, or exhibited abusive behaviors, you are likely experiencing betrayal trauma. Some common symptoms of betrayal trauma include overwhelming emotions; problems sleeping - falling asleep, staying asleep, sleeping too much; 'Brain fog' - hard time focusing, memory issues; changes in appetite or weight; anxiety/panic attacks; depression; intrusive images or flashbacks; difficulty caring for self or others; or isolation. People experience betrayal trauma in different ways which may include some of these or other symptoms.

Can I get help even if my spouse won't?

Sometimes we think we can't heal unless the person causing the betrayal is willing to get help and do their own work. That isn't true. You can get help for yourself and start your own healing regardless of the choices your spouse is making. It will not be easy and will require setting boundaries to keep yourself safe, but it is possible.

Why is it important to work with someone specializing in betrayal trauma?

Betrayal trauma is a new field and is only recently being examined and understood. Old models considered the betrayed partner to be a c0-addict, codependent, or otherwise a part of the problem. You did not cause this betrayal! It is so important to work with someone who understands that and who has specialized training to help you heal and move forward from this specific situation. Often well-meaning professionals can cause more damage to you or the relationship because the training they have received is intended for a relationship where betrayal has not been present. Betrayal trauma requires a unique approach.

What are the steps for healing from betrayal trauma?

The first phase of healing is about gaining safety and stabilization through things like understanding your reality, learning to honor and manage emotions, working through triggers, setting boundaries, and practicing self care. The next phase involves mourning your losses and beginning relational repair if possible and desired. In the third phase, you will work toward rebuilding trust, creating a vision for the future, building relationships and intimacy, and helping others.
